Cultural Art Form

Margam Kali

Margam Kali is a traditional group dance of the Knanaya community, performed by young women during festive occasions. This classical dance form narrates the story of the life of St. Thomas the Apostle who brought Christianity to India. Dancers move in a circular pattern around a lit lamp, symbolising the spread of faith.

Parichamuttu Kali

Parichamuttu Kali (shield and sword dance) is a vigorous martial art dance form performed by men of the Knanaya community. Dancers wield shields and swords in synchronised choreography accompanied by rhythmic drumbeats. This tradition is believed to have been brought by the ancestors from the Middle East and represents the warrior heritage of the community.
